With the high school football season ended, it is a good exercise to see how the other leagues played out. I did this at the end of last season. There are a few leagues that I highlight, which are a mix of public and private.

The main leagues are the Long Island Champions, PSAL Champions, MIFL Champions, NYSPHSAA Champions, and of course, the MMHSAA/NYCHSFL Champions. I also look at how each Catholic School did in public league, of which there are several. Is there not a way to unify all these different championships to find the true State Champion? The Catholic State Champion should 100% play the public school champion to determine this. It should not be hard to do. Is there a way to include the PSAL and Long Island teams into the NYSPHSAA? I don’t know what the answer is. More on this later as I continue to think about it.

Of course, I will start with the Catholic Leagues:

New York Catholic High School Football League (NYCHSFL)

‘AAA’: Iona Preparatory School defeated Monsignor Farrell High School 42-20

‘AA-1’: Xavier High School defeated St. Joseph by the Sea High School 28-7

‘AA-2’: Xaverian High School defeated Holy Cross High School 21-8

Monsignor Martin High School Athletic Association (MMHSAA)

‘A’: St. Francis High School defeated Canisius High School 41-34

New York State Catholic Athletic Association (NYSCHSAA)

Iona Preparatory School defeated St. Francis High School 42-21

Around the State:

Public School Athletic League (PSAL)

‘AAAA’: Erasmus Hall Educational Complex defeated Tottenville High School 34-27

‘AAA’: Frank J. Macchiarola Sheepshead Bay Educational Complex defeated James Madison High School 46-6

‘AA’: William Cullen Bryant High School defeated Boys and Girls High School 28-16

‘A’: Michael J. Petrides School defeated the East Harlem Pride 14-6

Metro Independent Football League (MIFL)

The Pingry School defeated Poly Prep County Day School 27-15 to win the MIFL title, dethroning the defending champions.

Does Pingry sound familiar? Xavier played the Pingry School this season in week 4, and won 29-22. The MIFL is an interesting league. It crosses state lines. There is no website that I can find, and no central area for stats/records. On MaxPreps, these are the schools listed in the MIFL:

The MIFL seems to be a group of non catholic private schools covering a large area.
